The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 global goals to promote a sustainable and equitable future for all. They cover a wide range of issues, including eradicating poverty, providing access to quality education, combating climate change and protecting the oceans. These goals provide a structured and comprehensive framework that addresses the most pressing global challenges while defining concrete actions and targets to solve them. In addition, we have introduced the goal "More animal welfare" to promote the welfare and rights of animals. Discover how you too can contribute to a better world through education and engagement.

The SDGs are ideal for the ReGen.rocks social learning platform for young people, as they provide a holistic and interdisciplinary basis for learning. They promote a deep understanding of the links between social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability. In this way, they help young people to understand global challenges and develop critical thinking, which strengthens their ability to act and make them responsible citizens. Build-up phase

"End poverty in all its forms and everywhere."

SDG 1: No poverty

Young people learn how poverty is combated worldwide and what measures are needed to enable all people to live in dignity. They learn about the social and economic structures that cause poverty and how these can be overcome through targeted projects and initiatives. Through education and commitment, they can actively contribute to the fight against poverty and promote global justice.

"End hunger, achieve food security and better nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture."

SDG 2: No hunger

Young people learn how hunger and malnutrition are combated and what role sustainable agriculture plays in this. They understand the importance of access to nutritious food and how agricultural practices can be improved to secure the global food base. Through projects and initiatives, they can contribute to food security and healthy nutrition for all.

"Ensure a healthy life for all people of all ages and promote their well-being."

SDG 3: Good health and well-being

Young people learn about the importance of healthcare systems and how to address global health problems such as pandemics and diseases. They learn how prevention, healthcare and research can help improve people's quality of life and well-being. Through engagement and education, they can advocate for healthy living and support health initiatives.

"Ensure inclusive, equal and high-quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all."

SDG 4: Quality education

Young people experience how important education is for personal and social development and what barriers exist worldwide. They learn how educational projects and programs increase the chances of a better life. Through their own involvement, they can support educational initiatives and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and skills.

"Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls."

SDG 5: Gender equality

Young people understand the challenges and benefits of gender equality and how to promote it in different cultures. They sometimes learn how important gender equality is for a fair and modern society. Through education and projects, they can actively contribute to strengthening the rights of women and girls.

"Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all."

SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation

Young people learn about the importance of clean water and sanitation and the challenges of providing it for everyone. They learn how water management and hygiene contribute to health promotion. By getting involved in water projects, they can improve the quality of life of many people.

"Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all."

SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy

Young people learn how renewable energies contribute to sustainable development and how to ensure access to energy for all. They also learn what sustainable energy sources are and what alternatives there are to fossil fuels. They understand how energy efficiency and renewable energies contribute to environmental protection. They can promote access to clean energy through projects and initiatives.

"Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all."

SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth

SDG 8 deals with the importance of decent work and sustainable economic growth and which strategies are used to promote them. The young people learn how fair working conditions and sustainable economic growth can be achieved and find out what measures are necessary to achieve this. By getting involved, they can contribute to fair working conditions and economic stability.

"Build a resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and support innovation."

SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Young people discover how infrastructure, industrialization and innovation contribute to economic development and the reduction of inequalities by developing innovative solutions. The links between sustainable industrialization and economic and social development are made clear. Through projects and initiatives, they can support technological progress and improve the quality of life.

"Reduce inequality within and between countries."

SDG 10: Fewer inequalities

Young people learn how social and economic inequalities can be combated. They learn what measures are needed to promote global equality of opportunity. Through engagement and education, they can help to reduce inequalities and promote a fairer world.

"Making cities and settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable."

SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities

Young people learn how sustainable urban development and infrastructure can be implemented so that cities and communities can be made more sustainable, safer and more liveable. They learn what measures and changes are necessary to achieve this. Through projects and initiatives, they can contribute to improving the quality of urban life.

"Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns."

SDG 12: Sustainable consumption and production

Young people discover the principles of sustainable consumption and production and how resources can be used more efficiently. They learn what resource-conserving and environmentally friendly practices look like. They can support sustainable lifestyles and production methods through their own measures and projects.

"Take immediate action to combat climate change and its effects."

SDG 13: Climate action

This SDG deals with the importance of climate protection measures and the effects of climate change. Young people learn about the causes and consequences of climate change and what measures can be taken to combat it - how they themselves can contribute to climate protection. Through engagement and education, they can actively combat climate change and work towards a sustainable future.

"Conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development."

SDG 14: Life below water

Young people learn to understand how important it is to protect the seas and oceans and what threats exist. They learn how marine ecosystems can be used and protected sustainably and what steps need to be taken to preserve marine biodiversity. They can contribute to the conservation of marine resources through projects and initiatives.

"Protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, end and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss."

SDG 15: Life on land

Young people learn why the conservation of different ecosystems is so important and how terrestrial ecosystems can be protected and restored. They learn what measures are needed to protect forests, deserts and biodiversity. They can actively contribute to the conservation of natural habitats through commitment and projects.

"Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels."

SDG 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions

Young people learn to understand the importance of peace and justice for sustainable development and how these can be promoted. They learn how strong institutions and just systems contribute to stability and how to promote them. Through engagement and education, they can actively contribute to the promotion of peace and justice.

"Strengthen the means of implementation and breathe new life into the global partnership for sustainable development."

SDG 17: Partnerships to achieve the goals

Young people learn why global partnerships and cooperation are essential in order to achieve the SDGs and promote sustainable development worldwide. Interrelationships are explained in detail and thus understood in a deeper sense. They can promote cooperation and solidarity through projects and initiatives.

"Protecting and promoting the welfare and rights of animals."

Our additional SDG 18: More animal welfare

Young people learn about the importance of protecting animals and what measures can be taken to improve their welfare. They learn about the ethical and ecological aspects of animal welfare and how they can stand up for animal rights. Through education and engagement, they can actively contribute to the promotion of animal welfare, the protection of endangered species and the reduction of animal suffering - regardless of whether they are pets, farm animals or wild animals.
